Scientists have been investigating the secret ingredients that breast milk is composed of over the course of many years and what makes it the perfect food for newborns. They have discovered over 200 close compounds to fight infection, mature the immune system, assist with digestion, and support brain development – nature made attributes that science simply cannot replicate.

Important long term benefits of breast feeding are reduced risk of asthma, allergies, obesity, and even some forms of childhood cancer. The more scientists learn going forward, the better breast milk looks.

In addition to making your baby healthier, breast feeding may also make him smarter. Many studies have proven that breast fed babies tend to be smarter than babies who were fed with formula or other methods. Breast feeding assists with essential nourishment for the brain, which is something every mother should be concerned with.

The benefits for the nursing mom are just as beneficial as they are for the child. The hormones released during breast feeding will curtail blood loss post delivery and aid in shrinking the uterus back to the size it was before her pregnancy.

Long term, the breast feeding mother will have a reduced risk of pre-menopausal breast cancer, which is the kind that strikes before the age of 50. The benefits will begin to appear within three to six months of breast feeding and increase the longer that breast feeding continues.

By now, you should recognise that breast milk equals one super powerful fluid. It offers more for your child than formula, or any other scientific concoction for that matter. As you begin to plan for baby’s future, make a commitment to breast feed him or her for as long as you possibly can – as breast milk will do both your bodies good.
